The Department of Mechanical Engineering (MEK) of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) has an open PhD position in the field of Product/Service-System Design from a Life Cycle Costing Perspective. The project will involve a number of cases studies together with shipowners in the maritime industry, plus collaboration with a similar PhD project, which will be studying the Life Cycle Environmental perspectives of ships. On 28th May 2013, the Danish Maritime Foundation will host their Research Day 2013, where all currently funded research projects will be presented and discussed. The PROTEUS-consortium has been asked to present at Danish Maritime's Annual Meeting, to an audience of key maritime decision-makers. As a new initiative Danish Maritime will host a Annual Meeting, in conjunction with their annual board meeting. At the Annual Meeting, which will be attended mainly by maritime indsutrialists, politicians and policy makers, Tim McAloone will present the PROTEUS project, with the main theme of servitisation in the maritime branch. IPU and DTU Management Engineering are the organiser behind a seminar day called "Driftsteknikerdagen" within the forum called "DTU Operations Management" . PROTEUS were asked to give a case based presentation on PSS. The focus for the day was: "perspectives on productivity: challenges and opportunities".The PSS contribution were adding to the understanding of the complex situation Denmark is facing in connection to staying highly competitive within our manufacturing/producing companies. Understanding Product/Service-Systems might not have all answers for the challenges in productivity and operations management, but it will broaden up the understanding of what to focus on in terms on staying competitive. Lowering time to market, increasing quality and reducing cost, will not keep companies competitive if the “product” or value constellation (the offering to the customer) is out of scope. PROTEUS was participating in the 4th IPS2 conference on industrial product service systems in Tokyo/Japan', presenting two papers and participating in a research workshop. PROTEUS was presenting the latest research results at the IPS2 2012 conference in Tokyo. This conference is one the vital conferences within industrial PSS. The first day after arrival in Tokyo, we were participating in a large research workshop on PSS, followed by the two days conference. The conference was covering many themes of inspiration for PROTEUS among others can be mentioned: Business models for PSS, Networking for PSS, Organisational issues for PSS, PSS Education and Training. We have been introduced to many different frameworks presenting how to; Structure the development process of PSS, organise, make PSS user-centred and many more. A theme appearing across many research contributions was sustainability, therefore the conference proceedings book are called: The philophers' stone for Sustainability.
